**LUASS** is a nonprofit organization born from the deep love and commitment of a mother advocating for her child on the autism spectrum. We are dedicated to breaking down barriers, fostering understanding, and creating a world where neurodiversity is celebrated and embraced.

Why Lukundo?

The name **Lukundo** comes from the **Pare** language, also known as **Asu**, spoken by the Pare people of Tanzania’s Northeast Coast, particularly around the **Pare Mountains** in the Kilimanjaro Region. **Lukundo** means **”love”**, a powerful and fitting word that serves as the foundation for everything we do at LUASS. In the **Chasu** language, spoken in the same region, **”Lukundo”** also carries the meaning of love, unity, and compassion. It is from this deep cultural connection and the belief in the transformative power of love that LUASS was founded.

The Inspiration Behind LUASS

The inspiration for LUASS came from my own experience as a mother navigating the challenges of raising a child on the autism spectrum. Seeing firsthand the lack of awareness and the stigma surrounding autism, especially in our communities, I realized the urgent need to provide families with the tools, resources, and support to help them thrive. LUASS was born to create a more inclusive society, one where individuals on the spectrum are seen, heard, and supported.
